TweakTown informs us that Audi is developing an EV with a 280 mile range. Scheduled for release in 2017. the  five passengers would be able to travel up to 280 miles (450 kilometers) on a single charge. The news comes from Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Audi head of technical development. Currently the Tesla S has a range up to 300 miles, easily outpacing other current electric vehicles.

YIBADA reports Chinese and China-based vehicle manufacturers produced 47,000 electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids during the first 10 months of 2014, almost five times more than they did within the same period last year. This figure includes both passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles.

The automakers are not going to make any money on electric car sales anytime soon we learn from Green Car Reports. This comes from Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche and he is not too pleased. At an event event in Spain to introduce the Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive to European journalists, he said:

“Manufacturers will not see a return within a reasonable time on the billions they’re investing now…You can reasonably say that nobody today is making a battery-powered vehicle that’s economically viable in its own right.”

In 2015 the US city of Indianapolis will have the largest plug-in EV municipal fleet in that country. From Treehugger we learn the city’s mayor has announced there will be a 425-vehicle strong “Freedom Fleet” of electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids for city employees next year. The vehicles are expected to save over 2.2 million gallons of gasoline in the next ten years. By 2025, transportation for all city employees—except police pursuit vehicles—will be 100% electric.

The Spanish cities of Madrid and Barcelona are introducing electric taxi fleets according to The Green Car Website. The cities are using the Nissan e-NV200 which is being built in Barcelona.
