Protest demonstrations were held in different parts of Peshawar in Pakistan against excessive electric power load shedding. Protesters blocked city’s major arteries for about six hours, causing much inconvenience to motorists amid scorching heat.

The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has slashed the existing 42-hour electricity load shedding to 35 hours a week. Now there will be power outages of six hours for two days a week, five hours for four days and three hours for one day. The NEA has attributed the reduction in power outage hours to increased water levels in the  rivers due to the arrival of the monsoon in recent days.

Global solar panel manufacturers face three more years of tough economic conditions until the market shuts down excess production capacity, according to a new report issued by renewable power consultancy GTM Research. Production capacity for photovoltaic solar panels this year stands at 59 gigawatts, about double the 30 gigawatts expected to be sold into the global market.

Brazil’s Empresa de Pesquisa Energitica (EPE), one of the country’s energy agencies, reported the electricity generated by rooftop solar panels in Brazil is less expensive than that provided by 10 of the country’s 63 electric power distributors. EPE notes that most of the country’s energy producers charge as much as $350 per megawatt-hour. The electricity produced by rooftop solar energy systems cost approximately $290. With the price of solar panels and other technologies dropping, the solar energy industry may be able to overtake Brazilian energy companies as the nation’s leading provider of electricity.
