Global Energy Demand to 2040

Global demand for energy is predicted to rise by 25% between 2014 and 2040, according to Exxon Mobil’s 2016 Energy Outlook report. Demand is being driven by both economic and population growth. Demand growth will be seen in the developing world, with China plateauing around 2030. Meanwhile, energy demand is predicted to fall by 5% between 2014 and 2040 in developed nations, including Canada, the United States, Australia, Europe, Japan, and South Korea. Energy efficiency is expected to play a large role in slowing the growth in global demand, as energy use per unit of economic output is likely to fall by 40 %.
